SPLIT STOPS™ AND THE SPEED APPLIANCE As the SPEED appliance requires no ligature ties to entrap the archwire, many SPEED users prefer SPEED Split Stops™ to prevent space opening. 30 Stretch the elastomeric chain over the opened brackets. Insert the archwire and close the Spring Clips. NOTE: Many clinicians find that elastomeric chain works equally as well if placed around the closed brackets after archwire engagement. “Thin” chain with “wide” spacing works best with the SPEED appliance.
